So what exactly is an Ultralite Buggy?
Put simply the Ultralite Buggy is a lightweight (under 400kg) on road / off road buggy, it qualifies as a "Heavy Quad Bike" under current UK vehicle regulations (therefore cheap to insure / tax) and does not go through the very complicated SVA testing rules and regulations, instead it must pass a motorcycle version of the rules / testing called the MSVA. It has been designed to use the majority of its components from a single donor vehicle, the Suzuki Swift, with the rest of the parts being either fabricated for the build or standard off the shelf aftermarket motorsport parts. Build cost is a major factor in this project as there are many "Turn Key" buggies available on the market today, and for this project to be a success this buggy must have superior design / function and performance to those factory built units.OK so I get that but why?
Well I've been looking (for an excuse) to build another vehicle ever since my first attempt many years ago (see "The Mark 1" in the galleries section) but up until now I have not had the time or space to do so (or the green light from my better half) - However (after my better half gave in to the constant nagging - Yes men can nag!) throwing all caution to the wind, I have once again lifted my angle grinder in anger, donned the fire proof overalls and sparked the welder back into life! And in an attempt to do a better job than last time (You'll see what I mean when you look at the Mark 1 gallery) I have actually spent some considerable time designing it - not the back of fag packet for this one - oh no!
